Baseball has been viewed by many as a “slow” sport where you do not do much, however, this is not true. There is a reason baseball is America’s pastime, it is one of the greatest sports in all of history. Baseball has multiple things that make it stand out from other sports, but here are the top five reasons why baseball is a great sport:
1. You can’t run out the clock
You have to play all 9 innings so you can’t just take a knee and allow the clock to run down, you have to keep playing until you have finished all nine innings.
2. Players are constantly breaking some sort of record or achieving a major milestone, year after year.
Every year you see a player reach a milestone or break a record in baseball, how many other sports can you say that for? This year Derek Jeter got to 3,000 hits, Jim Thome is creeping up on 600 home runs and the season is only half way done. Last year, Ichiro tied Pete Rose for consecutive 200 hit seasons with ten; this list can go on forever because there are so many great players in the great game of baseball.
3. The All-Star Game
Baseball is the only sport in America in which the All-Star game actually means something. All other All-Star games are offense with no defense, baseball, on the other hand, is played with extreme competitiveness because it decides who gets home-field advantage in the World Series.
4. Baseball requires more than athleticism.
There is a reason so many athletic people fail at playing baseball, you need to have the skills to field a baseball, hit a baseball, and run the bases. While they may sound easy, in no way are they easy, these skills are obtained through hard work.
5. The Ballparks
Baseball has some of the best stadiums in all of America, if you look at Camden Yards or AT&T Park you will see what great stadiums look like.
